Activity Questions
What can
I do in the sling?
While you
are in the sling you can use your hand to carry light
things. You can remove the sling (or just loosen it) to use
a keyboard in your lap. You can bend and straighten your
elbow gently. You should just avoid moving the shoulder
other than your daily home therapy program.
Other
activities?
As long
as you are in the sling...you can do whatever other
activities you wish. If you desire to get some aerobic
exercise you may want to try walking, bike, stairs, or
eliptical machines. Usually the bouncing effect of jogging
in uncomfortable.
How do I know what I can and can't do?
First of
all...always listen to your pain. If you're trying to do
something and it hurts your shoulder quite a bit...STOP!
Next, listen to whatever instructions you received from Dr.
Brady. He will allow you to advance your activities at each
postoperative visit. Please ask him about the specific
activities you would like to know about.
